Log cabin warranty: 10 years against rot

Satus Baltic buildings carry a 10-year warranty against rot. Buildings with a floor area of up to 20 m², or with walls thinner than 44 mm, carry 5 years. Windows, doors and all accessories are covered for 2 years unless their manufacturer states a longer period. The warranty depends on correct assembly, a proper base and regular wood treatment — the conditions are listed below in full.

Warranty periods

When the warranty does not apply

Unsuitable base. Every building must be assembled on a solid, level base that follows the exact measurements for that model.
Assembly not according to the instructions supplied with the purchase, whether by the customer or a third-party assembly service.
Modifications. The product has been modified or altered in any way since delivery.
Untreated cuts. An approved cut-end treatment was not applied to wood immediately after it was cut, pierced or drilled.
No wood treatment. The building was not coated inside and outside after assembly, and re-coated once a year inside and outside, with an oil-based preserver or paint at a coverage of 80–120 microns.
Contact with vegetation or walls. After assembly the building stood in close contact with plants, trees or exterior walls, letting moisture into the timber.
Second-hand purchase. The claimant is not the original buyer.
Roof covering damaged or fitted incorrectly, allowing moisture to enter and accumulate.
Late assembly. The product was not assembled within 2 months of the delivery date.
Storage. The product was not kept in a dry place until assembly.
Hinges not adjusted when doors or windows expanded or contracted, as wood naturally does.
Poor ventilation. Indoor humidity must not exceed 50%.
Force majeure — for example flood, storm or fire.

Natural behaviour of timber

Timber is a natural product. Some movement, warping, cracking and splitting is to be expected, especially in severe weather. It does not affect the solidity of the building, so it is not covered by the warranty.

How to keep your warranty valid

Prepare a solid, level base to the dimensions on your drawing before delivery.
Store the packs dry and assemble within 2 months of delivery, following the instructions.
Treat every cut end straight away.
Coat the building inside and out after assembly, and again every year.
Keep plants and walls away from the timber, the roof covering intact and the interior ventilated.
