Our timber: FSC-certified Nordic spruce and pine
All Satus Baltic buildings are made from FSC-certified, slow-grown Nordic spruce and pine, machined at our factory in Vydmantai, Lithuania. Slow-grown northern softwood has a tighter grain and more resin than fast-grown timber, which makes it more stable and more resistant to moisture. The timber is supplied untreated, so the exterior must be protected soon after assembly.
Why Nordic spruce and pine
- Tight grain — trees in a cold climate grow slowly, giving denser, stronger and more stable boards.
- Natural resin content helps the wood resist moisture and decay.
- Workability — it machines cleanly into precise interlocking profiles, so walls close tightly.
What FSC certification means
FSC-certified wood comes from responsibly managed forests, with the chain from forest to factory documented. All timber used in our production is FSC-certified, and we provide certification documentation with orders — useful for dealers who need to meet sustainability requirements.
Wood moves — and that is normal
A log wall settles slightly in its first year as the timber adjusts to local humidity. Our kits are designed for this movement. Small surface cracks are a natural property of solid wood and do not affect the structure.
Looking after it
- Apply an impregnation and a stain or paint to the exterior soon after assembly.
- Renew the finish periodically — it protects against UV, moisture and cracking.
- Keep the base ventilated and the ground around the building well drained.
With a sound base and a maintained finish, a log cabin lasts for decades.
